First Grade
We have been working very hard in first grade to finish up our Little Bird Tale online storybooks. It has been quite a long project because the children finish their illustrations at different rates, then they have to type up their sentences and record themselves reading their corresponding facts. We are proud to report, however, that two classes have finished their books! Take a look at Ms. Murphy and Mrs. Raymer's class project pages using the links or listed under the 1st grade heading to see (and hear!) their work! The children who have completed their portions of the projects have spent time working on math sites that help them work on their skills with telling time (their teachers requested this). The telling time links can be viewed by scrolling down on this page.
Second Grade
The second graders are also working hard to complete at least one Storybird per student. Several students have published numerous more! This week I reminded the children that the quality of their stories is what counts, not how quickly they publish a Storybird. My hope is that they begin to unlock the stories hiding within the beautiful pieces of art that Storybird has to offer. Be sure to check out the 2nd grade teachers' pages to see their published work!
In second grade we are also working on our keyboarding skills so we can kick our "hunting and pecking" to the curb! There are a few good keyboarding sites posted to the 2nd grade section of my webpage, and we worked this week on keeping our fingers on the homerow keys while typing. It's tough but smart work and the children seemed up for the challenge. Practicing our keyboarding will make us more efficient in the computer lab!

Third Grade
We are moving right along with our iMovie project in third grade. I taught the children how to create a folder on the Desktop of their computers in which to store the information and images they find for their movies. At the beginning of each class period they drag their individual folders to the Desktop from Dropbox and they return the folder to Dropbox at the end of the class. Dropbox has been a lifesaver of a teaching tool! Additionally, we spent time this week learning how to create original jingles and soundtracks using GarageBand that can later be added to our movies. The children understand that we cannot legally take music and footage created by others and add it to our movies--we are the ultimate creators of our movies, and I think they are enjoying the creative process.
